For the eighth instalment in the Betwixt & Between series we continue the move signalled by the previous tape of including alongside interlocutors on the reverse also collaborators on the face, as opposed to the solo work featured on the earlier tapes.

In that spirit, and continuing directly from Betwixt & Between 7's featuring of Shovel Dance Collective, Betwixt & Between 8 opens with Sullow - a new improvising trio featuring Jacken Elswyth (banjo), Daniel S. Evans (guitar), and Joshua Barfoot (percussion). Each also play as members of Shovel Dance Collective, but here they're stepping away from trad tunes and towards free-folk - quick attack, short decay, rapid burst composition.

And we're very excited to also welcome The Silver Field - an artist we've been hoping to invite to participate in the series for a while, as her dreamy ambient psych-folk feels a perfect match for the series. The Silver Field is a sound world of Coral Rose & friends. Voice, tapes, bass, strings, reeds, drums, small sounds, big sounds, sunlight, moonlight, a lot of water.

The Betwixt & Between 8 mascot is the cockatrice - born of an egg laid by a rooster and incubated by a toad, with a death-darting eye. The cover image is made after one that features in the Tudor Pattern Book (MS Ashmole 1504). The accompanying print is after an illustration in the Aberdeen Bestiary of a Cockatrice under attack by a weasel - the only animal immune to its stare.

Both sides were self-recorded and mixed by the artists, then mastered by Harry Murdoch.
